Like Minded Sent Ones

June 7, 2015 | Mike Rizzo

Guest speaker Mike Rizzo, from the International House of Prayer in Kansas City, talks about relationship with God and what that truly means. He explores the concept of ‘until’. No matter what circumstances bring, will you be obedient to His will and persevere? Mike also looks into what it takes to go deeper in relationship with God and how that affects us.

Sermon Notes

PHILIPPIANS 2:19-22 “I trust in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy to you shortly…For I have no one like-minded…all seek their own, not the things which are of Christ Jesus. But you know his proven character, that as a son with his father he served with me in the gospel.”

“Serving sons” become fathers in the faith.

The next generation of fathers will be found amongst the serving sons. (gender-inclusive)

ISAIAH 6:8-11 I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us?” Then I said, “Here am I. Send me.” And He said, “Go and tell this people. Keep on hearing, but do not understand. Keep on seeing, but do not perceive…” Then I said, “Lord how long?” And He answered, “UNTIL the cities are laid waste and without inhabitation, the houses are without a man, the land is utterly desolate…”

6: 1-7 A part of the preparation is to behold His glory and to be undone by His holiness. This is not simply an event or an experience, but is meant to be a lifestyle.

EZEKIEL 22:30 “So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it, but I found no one.”

o 22:25 Conspiracy

o 22:26 Unacquainted with holiness – the “undone” quality.

o 22:28 Compromise & people-pleasing.

DANIEL 8:15-16, 27

Like-minded sent ones have the grace for His touch.

PSALM 105: 17-24

If you’ve been sent, will you stay until?

Testing is refinement; the removal of dross, of mixture.

1 PETER 4:12-17

Glory and holiness encounters are front loaded with fiery trials.

If you are chosen to be sent, you are chosen to be refined.

God knows the danger of our claiming glory for ourselves, so he protects us through dependency.

LUKE 24:49

There are times when being sent is being told to wait.

“You must be able to come into the garden when I call you.”

“Intimacy” may sound like a passive term but it takes spiritual violence and a strong contending to acquire and maintain it. Inward resistance will be your strongest opponent.

“Going deeper in God will always mean God going deeper in you.”

The garden is the place where the betrayer is revealed.
